1. What is a cookie
A cookie is a small text file that a website saves on the user's device (computer, tablet, smartphone) through the browser, and which is read back during subsequent visits to recognise the device or store its preferences. Similar tools (e.g. local storage, pixels) perform similar functions and are subject to the same rules.
This notice is provided pursuant to Art. 122 of the Italian Data Protection Code (Legislative Decree no. 196 of 30 June 2003, as amended by Legislative Decree no. 101 of 10 August 2018), to Directive 2002/58/EC («ePrivacy Directive») and to the Italian DPA Decision of 10 June 2021, no. 231 («Guidelines on cookies and other tracking tools»).
2. Types of cookies used
2.1 Strictly necessary cookies
They ensure the operation of the website and the delivery of the services requested by the user. Pursuant to Art. 122, paragraph 1, of the Italian Data Protection Code they do not require the user's consent. This category includes:
- local storage tools (localStorage), used by the consent mechanism. The use of such tools for technical purposes is treated as equivalent to strictly necessary cookies pursuant to the Italian DPA Decision of 10 June 2021, no. 231;
- consent management cookie (cc_cookie, set by the site’s self-hosted consent mechanism), which stores the choice expressed by the user.
2.2 Statistics cookies (subject to consent)
- Services: Microsoft Clarity and Google Analytics 4.
- Clarity purpose: heatmaps, session recordings and aggregate behavioural analytics on website usage.
- Google Analytics 4 purpose: aggregate analysis of site usage, with the IP address anonymised.
- Loaded only with prior consent of the user: until then their scripts stay inert in the page.
2.3 OpenStreetMap map (no cookies)
Maps appear in three places on the site: the contact page, which embeds an OpenStreetMap map (OpenStreetMap Foundation), and the two acoustics tools acoustic map and barrier calculation, which load map tiles when the page opens. The maps set no cookies and perform no profiling, but when the tiles load your IP address is technically disclosed to the OpenStreetMap Foundation to deliver the images: this happens before any consent, because it is the image request itself.
In the two acoustics tools, when you place a source on the map,
building geometry is fetched from the OpenStreetMap Overpass
API. The request goes out in parallel to two independent
servers, both within the European Union —
overpass-api.de (Germany) and
kumi.systems (Austria) — and the first valid
answer wins. Those servers receive the coordinates of the requested
area and your IP address. They set no cookies, and the request is
triggered only by your action, not by page load.
The site contains no marketing or advertising cookies.
3. Consent management
Consent is managed by a self-hosted tool (vanilla-cookieconsent), served from the site’s own domain: no third-party service or cookie is used to collect consent. Non-technical (statistics) tools stay inactive until the user expresses a choice. The user may change their preferences at any time via the «Cookie settings» link in the website footer.
4. List of cookies and tools
The site’s toolset is small and stable; the full list follows. Statistics tools are activated only with prior consent.
| Name | Category | Who sets it, and where | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|---|
cc_cookie | Strictly necessary | The site, on its own domain | Stores the consent choice expressed | 6 months |
_ga | Statistics (prior consent) | Google Analytics 4, on the site’s domain | Distinguishes unique users | 2 years |
_ga_3GH0EG56T3 | Statistics (prior consent) | Google Analytics 4, on the site’s domain | Keeps the analytics session state | 2 years |
_clck | Statistics (prior consent) | Microsoft Clarity, on the site’s domain | Persistent user identifier | 1 year |
_clsk | Statistics (prior consent) | Microsoft Clarity, on the site’s domain | Links the pages viewed within a single session | 1 day |
CLID | Statistics (prior consent) | Microsoft Clarity, on its own domain clarity.ms | Identifies the first access to the service | 1 year |
MUID | Statistics (prior consent) | Microsoft, on its own domain clarity.ms | Microsoft user identifier for aggregate analysis | 13 months |
The statistical first-party cookies
(_ga, _ga_3GH0EG56T3, _clck,
_clsk) are deleted automatically by the
site when you withdraw consent, and the page is reloaded to stop
collection already in progress. CLID and
MUID, by contrast, are set on the third-party domain
clarity.ms and cannot be deleted by this site: to remove
them, use your browser settings or the opt-out provided by Microsoft.
In some configurations Clarity may set very short-lived technical
cookies solely to synchronise the identifier; they are not used for
advertising purposes.
The list is maintained manually and kept up to date by the Data Controller whenever the tools active on the site change.
5. How to disable cookies in your browser
The user can restrict or block cookies through their browser settings. See the official guides:
Notice: disabling strictly necessary cookies may compromise the proper functioning of the website and make some sections unavailable. Disabling statistics and marketing cookies does not affect browsing.
6. Changes to this notice
